Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Every one of us knows that we are called to “pray without ceasing,” and yet we often aren’t sure what prayer actually is or how best to do it. Studies show that people who pray are happier, less anxious, and generally more content with their lives, but how we might get there?
Over the next few days, I encourage you to find a quiet place and set aside some time for intentional prayer. Twenty minutes is the best amount of time. If that seems too much, set your phone timer for 5 or 10 minutes. Each day, I will offer you simple formulas to help you organize your prayers.
PRAY
P-Praise (thanking God for who God is, for people, things, help)
R-Repent (confession of sins & asking for forgiveness & help)
A-Ask-Ask for what you need, others need, the needs of the world
Y-Yield-sit quietly and listen for God. Quiet your heart & mind. What word or phrase might God’s Spirit be lifting up for me?
