Emergency Winter Shelter for Families

Collaboration between UCC, Immanuel, Family Promise and the YWCA

UCC Missoula and Immanuel Lutheran are providing cold weather emergency sleeping space for houseless families in the event the YWCA Meadowlark is full.

We need volunteers to be ON CALL in the event our services are needed.  Each volunteer will be contacted via phone call or text by 3 pm if we are receiving families.  If you don’t get contacted, there is no shift.

Volunteers responsibilities

Volunteer are needed for the following shifts:

  • The Evening Hosts shift runs from 7:00 pm until 10:30 pm. You will welcome families, orient them to the facility (sleeping space, bathrooms and building), and help them settle in for the evening.
  • The Overnight Hostsshould arrive by 10:00 pm and expect to be on the premises until 7:00 am the next morning. You are primarily there to be available if there are issues with families overnight. Otherwise, you simply “sleep over” in one of a few locations in the building.
  • TheMorning Hosts (6:30 am – 8:30 am) will offer folks a light breakfast and help them as they head out for the day by 8:00 am.  Then, they will do some light cleaning in the Fellowship Hall and bathrooms and start a load of laundry.
  • The Laundry Host:  (9:00 am) After the families leave, the laundry host washes, dries, folds, and stores laundry, so towels and bedding are ready for the next emergency overnight. IMLU does have laundry on site, or you could take it home.
